As a Managing Principal and Investment Committee member at Westbrook Partners, one of the worlds leading global real estate private equity investment managers, Mr. Palmer was extensively involved in all aspects of the investment cycle, including institutional investor fund-raising, investment strategy, acquisition sourcing, diligence, financing, structuring joint-venture partnerships, asset management, and dispositions. During his 13-year tenure as head of the West Coast investment activities, Mr. Palmer invested/committed nearly $1 billion of equity in 34 projects which included structuring and managing joint-ventures involving 13 operating partners and 7 capital partners. He oversaw over 1.5 million square feet of leasing and $300 million of capital improvement projects, with a keen focus on creating enduring projects that resonated with tenants and investors. The outstanding track-record of strong investment performance across cycles was the result of a highly focused, carefully crafted strategy, thoughtful and careful consideration of risks and rewards, creative and cost-effective improvement plans, detailed execution, and an unwavering focus on excellence and execution with integrity.
Trusted Advisor.
At Morgan Stanley, Mr. Palmer had the unique responsibility of running both the firm’s West Coast Investment Banking and Investing businesses. As an investment banker, he focused on advising senior management teams and Boards of Directors at public REITs, private companies and other institutional investors on mergers, acquisitions and other key strategic matters. He was also active in raising debt and equity capital and executing asset sales or ventures. The role demanded broad real estate knowledge as well as capital markets intelligence and strategic savvy. An essential skill was to simplify complex structures and situations, and succinctly communicate the key issues while retaining a thorough understanding of the details. During his Morgan Stanley career, Mr. Palmer executed over $19 billion of mergers & acquisitions and venture transactions, including the acquisition or sale of companies and portfolios, take-privates, and joint-ventures as well providing strategic advice to boards and independent committees. He also sourced and executed over $4.5 billion of corporate debt and equity financings, and over $1 billion of CMBS financings.
